While browsing through the book aisle at Costco on one of my last trips, I found this amazing Roald Dahl box sets that had so many of his amazing stories in one place. I remember loving so many of Roald Dahl's stories when I was a kid and knew that I had to pick up this great find.

Our first read was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Ava loved it. She was so into the story and always wanted us to read more together. Owen liked the story, but was more interested in listening from a distance while playing.

Anyone who's read the story knows how easy it is to get caught up in the excitement of who's going to find the golden tickets and what happens inside the factory. It was amazing to watch Ava get so caught up in the story and all the emotions that went with it.

Once we were done the book, Ava and Owen were both quick to watch both versions of the movie, needing to compare the two and declare which one they thought was the best (the newer Johnny Depp version), and have been watching it on repeat ever since.

We will be completing a small written book report, but in the meantime, we had fun decorating our own Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed mini-cakes.

Both complete with liquorice waterfalls, Ava (left) built the glass elevator with gummy bricks and dinosaur oompa loompas.

Owen (right) went for the gummy bear Oompa Loompas and while hard to see in the picture, he did a great job of making a Willy Wonka out of gummy bear, complete with top hat.

We all had fun making our own candy factories out of cake!

Next up, we will be reading Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator!
