This past weekend we had to travel to Victoria for family reasons, and decided to use a free day to walk around and learn about the rich history the city has to offer. Surrounded by beautiful totem poles and aboriginal art, it made all of our walks beautiful. We were able to learn about some of them with plaques that have been placed to show what the meanings are.

We started the day with visiting BC's Legislature building. We just started our Canadian Government unit today, so it was great to have the ability to bring the kids to our provincial legislature to show them where the government does their work. We talked about the monarchy with the statute of Queen Victoria in front (who the city was named after). As it's a royal city, it was interesting seeing all the places that will be changed from 'Queen' to 'King' with the passing of Queen Elizabeth.
Another great stop of the day was the Royal BC Museum. Their standing Natural History gallery, we loved exploring the different areas that BC has to offer from the coasts to the forests. There was a life-size wooly mammoth and the inside of a replica submarine.

Other highlights of the day were running through the gardens of the legislature, walking around the gorgeous fountain, and exploring St. Anne's Academy.
Once home to a nursing school, St. Anne's is now open to explore the parlour rooms and chapel, to experience the history and beauty of the area.
